| Overlijdensbericht | HELEN VAN BLARICOM DUFFY, beloved wife of the late Thomas Duffy, passed away at West Highlands, Lethbridge, Alberta on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at the age of 89 years. She was the loving mother of her only son Patrick. She was also survived by her brother Robert and her sister Jan. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Stephen Duffy, her brother Webster Van Blaricom and his wife Sylvia of Oakland, California, and her parents Shelomi Samuel Van Blaricom and Moselle Amanda Webster. Helen was born in Helena, Montana and lived most of her early years in Great Falls, Montana. She met Tom at the University of Montana in Missoula, where they married April 11, 1942. Their only child, Patrick, was born there in 1947. They lived for a number of years in Butte, Montana which was Tom's home town where she worked as a hospital lab technician. The family had a few moves in Montana where Helen and Tom were public school teachers. In 1962 the family moved to Gibbons, Alberta, Canada (near Edmonton) where she and Tom taught school. Later they settled in Edson, Alberta for many years and retired there. They then moved to Cardston in southern Alberta near the Montana border right across the street from the Alberta Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Helen had been living in Lethbridge, near her son, since Tom died in 2000. The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Indian Battle Heights Chapel, Lethbridge, Alberta. Interment followed at 3:00 p.m. at the Cardston Cemetery, Cardston, Alberta.

Overlijdensbericht | Thomas Stephen Duffy died Monday in Cardston, Alberta. He was born Jan. 15, 1919, in Butte. Tom was raised in Montana, went to Butte High School and Montana State University in Missoula. He taught school in Hot Springs, Virginia City, Lima, and Dixon. He moved to Alberta with his wife and son in 1962. He taught in Alberta until his retirement in 1981. Due to failing health, Tom moved to Cardston in 1994. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Helen Van Blaricom Duffy; son, Patrick (Sarai) of Lethbridge, Alberta; sister, Dolores (John) Graham of Sun City, Ariz.; brothers, James (Faye) of Butte, Jack (Barbara) of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; Fritz (Betty) of Columbus; Don (Jane) of Snoqualmie, Wash.; sisters-in-law, Jan (Gary) Power of Eugene, Ore.; Sylvia Van Blaricom of Oakland, Calif.; brother-inlaw, Bob (Jane) Van Blaricom of Tiburon, Calif.; 13 grand children; one great-grand daughter. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas; mother, Sylvia (Zachmann); stepfather, Jim Montford; parentsin-law, Shelomi and Moselle Webster Van Blaricom; broth ers, Doland, Paul; sister-inlaw, Rose; brother-in-law, Webster. The funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Temple Street Chapel in Cardston. Interment: Cardston Cemetery.Montana Standard, May 4, 2000 |
