Obituary | Max Van Blaricome, age 75 of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. Max, the son of Andy and Dorothy (Thompson) Van Blaricome was born May 2, 1939 in Jerome, Iowa. Max worked at Union Carbide Corp. for 33 years and retired from there in 2005. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. He spent many hours maintaining his lawn and gardening. He had a special love for hummingbirds which he fed and watched every year. He was also a wood craftsman and enjoyed making bird houses and small furniture. Max was a member of the Glen Echo Christian Church in Des Moines, Iowa. Max is survived by his wife of 53 years, Beverly (Gatrel) Van Blaricome, whom he married on December 18, 1960 in Centerville, Iowa. Max is also survived by his five children; Chris (Lisa) Van Blaricome of Centerville, Iowa, Kim (Doug) LeGary of Urbandale, Iowa; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, JoAnn Miller. Max was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Roy, Keith, and Paul Van Blaricome; eight sisters, Judy Stout, Lucille Ross, Gwen Lehman, Nadine Ross, Beulah Crowder, and Paulette and Fern Van Blaricome. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m.,Monday, June 2, 2014 at the Merle Hay Funeral Home in Des Moines, Iowa.
