| Obituary | Dr. J.W.VanBlaricum, 85 died Mar.7,2004 at Manor of the Plains,Dodge City,KS. He was born Sept. 25,1918 to Dr.James W. and Elizabeth Holly(Dean)Van Blaricum in Minneola,KS. He married Frances Nunemacher on Sept.5,1943 at Ashland,Ks. She survives. He served as a captain in the medical corps of the U.S.Army in the Europeann Theatre during WWII. He was a dentist in the city of Meade for 37 years before retiring in 1983. After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Dodge City,Ks. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church,Dodge City,Ks; Kansas State Dental Association, Minneola Masonic Lodge 431, and the Dodge City Country Club. He served as a council member of the board of Santa Fe Trail Boy Scouts and served as a member of the Meade School Board for several years. He was an avid fisherman and sportsman, and he also enjoyed boating, woodworking and golfing. He took pride in having his two sons and five grandsons achieve the Eagle Scout Award in Boy Scouts. Other survivors are two sons, Kenneth Robert of Pratt,KS and Dr. Galen Ray of Lawrence,KS; two daughters, Betty Anne Grogan of Alburquerque,N.M. and Francia Kay Bird of El Dorado,Ks.;8 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Obituary | Memorial services for Frances Van Blaricum, 92, Lawrence will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Inurnment will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the Scroggins Mausoleum at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City, KS. She died Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Brandon Woods at Alvamar. Frances was born August 18, 1921 in Ashland, KS the daughter of Robert and Lillie (Skelton) Nunemacher. She graduated from Emporia State Teachers College in 1943. She married James Walter Van Blaricum on September 5, 1943 in Ashland. They raised their family in Meade, KS, where J.W. practiced dentistry for over 30 years and Frances served as his assistant for many of those years. She was also a homemaker. Their retirement years were spent in Dodge City, KS where they enjoyed golf and traveling together until his death in 2004. Frances moved to Lawrence in 2005 where she was a member of Chapter HZ, P.E.O., the Tennola Literary Club, and the First Presbyterian Church. She also enjoyed attending events at the Lied Center and Lawrence Community Theatre. Survivors include two daughters, Betty Grogan, Albuquerque, NM, Francia Bird and husband, Eric, El Dorado, KS; two sons, Ken Van Blaricum and wife, Annette, Pratt, KS, Galen Van Blaricum and wife, Karen, Lawrence; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren. She was also proceeded in death by one sister, Eula May Nunemacher; and one brother, Robert Nunemacher. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials in her name to the First Presbyterian Church and may be sent in care of the mortuary. |
