Obituary | Elizabeth V. B. Poor, 95, of Candlewood Road, Ipswich, died Tuesday February 1, 2011 in the Caldwell Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center following her extended illness. She was the wife of the late Daniel W. Poor, Jr who died May 22, 2010. Born in Lynn January 22, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Frank Hiller and A. Louise (Ford) Van Blarcom. She was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School and a 1936 graduate of Boston University. She was employed as a secretary for Sylvania in Salem and Ipswich as a young woman. Married in 1941, the Poors lived on Labor-in-Vain Road in Ipswich before moving to their Candlewood Road farm in 1948. A well respected horsewoman, she bred and raised Thoroughbreds for many years for the racetrack and show ring. As a lover of all animals she also rescued many horses dogs and cats. She is survived by her son, Richard F. Poor of Ipswich, her daughter, Judith McDougal and her husband Norman of Pepperell, and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Elinor Crowley, formerly of Ipswich and Frances Hurd, formerly of Marblehead. Funeral services will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich.
