| Obituary | Josephine "Jo" L. Cates, 89, of Charlotte, MI died Monday, April 11, 2011. Jo was born August 1, 1921 in Vermontville, MI the daughter of Guy and Bertha (Gorham) VanBlarcom.
Jo was employed at Michigan Magnetics and Owens Illinois. She was a volunteer for both the Red Cross and Meals on Wheels for 20 years and a member of the First Congregational Church UCC since 1990. Jo used her gardening abilities to take care of the flowers at Kiwanis Manor.
She is survived by her sons; Michael Cates of Charlotte, Dennis (Judith L.) Cates of Charlotte and Steven (Cay) Cates of Nashville; Grandma Jo had 5 grandchildren, Karina, Ashley, Hillary (Josh), Jason (Jill), Laurie (David); 6 great grandchildren, Kacey, Evan, Alex, Alicia, Allie, Adam and Wyatt and one great-great granddaughter, Savannah. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth in 1994; siblings, Zelna, Glenna, Mabel, Edith, Claude and Kenneth; and granddaughter, Alani.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Charlotte First Congregational Church with Pastor Phil Hobson officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Vermontville, MI. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 19, 2011 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home.
