ObituaryWallace D. Van Blaricom, 75, of Fairbanks, Alaska, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021, at the Central Texas Veteran Healthcare Community Living Center in Temple, Texas. No services are scheduled at this time.
He was born at his mother's sister's home on Oct. 12, 1946, to Wylie and Mabel (Johnson) Van Blaricom in the village of Prairie Farm, Barron County, Wisconsin. He grew up in Dunn County, lettered three years in wrestling, and graduated from Menomonie High School on May 29, 1964. In April of 1966, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged in April of 1977. During his military service, he served as a military police officer and achieved the rank of lance corporal. He served with the Twin Cities Military Police Officers from 1975 to 1977. In 1980, Wallace moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, where he worked for the Fred Meyer department store as a loss prevention officer for 20 years. He later worked as store security for the Fairbanks Sears department store and with the Department of Criminal Justice, Fairbanks North Star Center, Halfway House. After retirement, Wallace moved to San Jose, Costa Rica, where he lived close to his beloved friends, Dennis, Ana Johnson, and family.
Wallace loved the outdoors. He was an avid sportsman, played softball in multiple leagues, collected sports memorabilia and comic books. Most of all he was extremely proud of being a United States Marine.
Wallace "Wally" is preceded in death by his father, Wylie Van Blaricom in 1994; his mother, Mabel P. Van Blaricom, in 2008; sister, Judy Van Blaricom in 1954; brother, Wesley D. Van Blaricom in 2008; and his sister Shirley Gunderson in 2020.
