Obituary | Athens - Veneine (West) Laughton Van Blarcom, 95, of Athens, passed away May 15, 2006. A native of New Brunswick, Canada, Mrs. Van Blarcom was the daughter of the late John William and Helen Briggs West, Sr. She was preceded in death by her husbands Frank Laughton and Robert Van Blarcom, 15 brothers and sisters, and grandchildren Valerie and Samuel. Mrs. Van Blarcom came to Harmony, ME in 1922, graduated from Harmony High School in 1929, and married Frank Laughton in 1931-1968. She worked the dairy farm with Frank, milking cows, cutting hair on the sly, tending the home, family, and the business until his death. She spent many years as a caretaker for a relative in California where she met and married Robert Van Blarcom, who preceded her in death in 1995. Mrs. Van Blarcom came to Athens, GA in 1989 and enjoyed her family in her final years. She was a fun-loving and loving person who was loved in return by everyone who met her. Our father, Frank, often said in jest that she may have been naturalized (which she was) but never civilized. Survivors include sons; Reginald Laughton, Ronald Laughton, six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. A celebration of her life will be held by her family members. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity. Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements James Modlin. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery. |
